Day 25

Matthew Chapter 25

Matthew Chapter 25

Daily Thought

Some recent polls show that a whopping 83% of Americans identify themselves as Christians. Now, we certainly are not called to judge anyone to condemnation, but it sure seems like if 83% of our country were God-fearing Christians, the landscape of our society might not look the way it currently does. This is exactly what Jesus is speaking to in chapter 25. All three of the parables that he shares with his disciples are a warning not to the unbelievers but to those who profess Christ with their mouths. The disciples had asked Jesus information about his return, and instead of giving any specifics on what to look for, Jesus turns it back to the heart issue. Three times he gives examples of people who in the text call out to him as Lord, but he says “I never knew you.” Brothers and sisters, this text should not instill fear in you but confidence. You can be sure of where your heart is for the Lord. Christianity is not a box we check on a college application or a hospital form but a life-changing, heart changing commitment. In your personal prayer time today, recommit your life heart, soul, body, and will to our Lord and Savior and go forth in confidence that he hears your prayers and that he knows you. One day he will say “Well done good and faithful servant.”
