Luke Chapter 8
In Luke chapter 8, we see Jesus proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. This is quickly followed by a parable of Jesus as to the importance of how we listen and receive His Word.
There are some who cling to the Word of God and bear Christ-likeness. But Jesus warns that there are many who receive the Word without continually being shaped by it. They deny God by their actions due to rejection from others and the love of pleasure more than God. They would say they believe in God, but when obeying Him will cost them something, they choose to go their own way.
Jesus warns that on our judgement day nothing will be hidden. The intentions of our heart will be fully revealed. We need to be very careful how we listen then to the Word of God and make it the priority of our lives. Jesus concludes, those who belong to His family are those who not only hear the word of God but do it.
When the storms of life come, we want Jesus in our boat. We want to have confidence that we’ve been living in step with His will. It’s hard to have faith and call on Jesus when we haven’t already been close to Him.
How close are you to Jesus right now? Have you been seeking Him? Ask Jesus to speak to you through His Word. Read carefully and slowly in an environment where you can focus. Spend time seeking Him in prayer accordingly. For those who cling to the Word and obey it are family to Jesus.
