A Conditional Future

Read

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 – “…I have placed before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, 20 by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding close to Him…” (NASB)

God has revealed that we have a significant role in determining what our future will be. God has given us His Son and His Word so that we can properly order our lives around Christ and one another. Regardless of how much we go to church, sing worship songs, or give of our money, if we persist in violating God’s precepts and principles we’re bringing death to our relationship with God and our relationship with one another.

The Apostle Peter quotes Psalm 34 saying, ‘Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. 11 They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil (3:10-11).” (NIV)

If I ask one hundred people if they want to love their life and see good days, I bet one hundred out of one hundred are going to say yes. If I ask those same one hundred people if they will trust Jesus Christ to help them to no longer lie, or gossip, or slander while turning from sin; pursuing reconciliation and peace continually with God and man, I bet many will say no.

Whether in your marriage or any other relationship, we are called by Christ to participate with Him in seeking harmony, sympathy, compassion, and humility. Never returning insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead. Do you want to love life and see good days? Christ is the way! You decide.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, my Lord Jesus Christ, help me to trust that no one can hinder your good plans for me, but me. Help me to commune with you daily in prayer that I may manifest your Spirit and your love in all my relationships. Amen.
