Ephesians 3:14-20 – “…I bend my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, 16 that He would grant you…to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner self…17 and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend…19 the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us…” (NASB)

In order to fulfill our purpose, we need to be strengthened with God’s power in the inner self. Only the Holy Spirit can root us and ground us in Christ’s love to be a full expression of Him. Only the Holy Spirit can help us to begin to comprehend God’s love that surpasses knowledge. This is true worship, to be image bearers in all that we say and do. When we focus on all that we are not, this seems so far off. When we get revelation of who Jesus is, we pray with the expectation that He can do far more than what we had previously imagined possible. There is power in Jesus’ name!

A woman sat in the hospital lobby waiting to see the abortion doctor feeling such guilt and shame. Pregnant from having committed adultery, she was tormented by what she faced. She prayed, ‘if you want me to keep this baby send a man of God.’ A pastor who liked his pocket Bible couldn’t figure out why he felt so impressed to bring his big Bible to visit one of his church members that day. When the woman looked up after her prayer, she turned to see a man carrying a large Bible coming down the lobby. She impulsively ran to him with tears explaining her situation. He told her God sent His son to die for her sins so she and her son could live. She gave her life to Christ and walked out of the hospital that day ready to give birth to two new lives inside of her. This is the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge. This is the power of being rooted and grounded in Him. Encounters beyond our imagination!

Every family derives their name from our Father in heaven regardless of their dysfunction. God has ascribed worth to us, making us in His image and likeness and sending Jesus to restore His image in us, while we were yet sinners.

Prayer

Father, we love you! Thank you for loving us and calling us to be rooted and grounded in a love that surpasses all comprehension. Be glorified today in Jesus’ name, Amen.
