Luke 1:31, 34-37 – “…behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and you shall name Him Jesus…34 But Mary said to the angel, ‘How will this be, since I am a virgin?’ 35 The angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; for that reason also the holy Child will be called the Son of God. 36 And behold, even your relative Elizabeth herself has conceived a son in her old age… 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”
Are you with God? Have you come into agreement with Him that you are a sinner and Jesus Christ is an all sufficient Savior?
How is it possible that a sinner by nature can become an imitator of God? We could say along with Mary in the Christmas story, ‘How will this be, (that I could conceive Jesus in my life) since I am…(a sinner)?’ And to that, the messenger of the Lord declares the good news, ‘the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most-High will overshadow you.’ Your life can go from producing sin to producing the righteousness of Christ. By the way, your older relative, that one who cannot possibly produce anything new, who you would not mind missing the holiday season, even they can conceive from God in their old age.
All things have been made possible for God through our Lord Jesus Christ! All of God’s promises are yes and Amen in Jesus. Do you believe that? Do not just get excited about the new life Jesus can produce in you, get excited for the new possibilities for those around you as well.
Heavenly Father, in this season of Advent, please help me not only to anticipate the return of Christ but also all that the Holy Spirit of Christ can accomplish in and through people. Let this story of Mary and Elizabeth restore my vigor for prayer in Jesus’ name, Amen.
