Psalm 37:4 – “Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.”
I was recently gifted with some extra money. It was during a time when I had been considering how my wife is someone who is quick to give extra to the kids but very reluctant to spend money on herself. In considering how selfless she is, it was my desire and delight to tell her I wanted to take her on a shopping spree. My heart’s desire to bless her came out of my delight in her selfless ways.
In Psalm 37:4, the word ‘delight’ is a verb. When we are proactively seeking to know the Lord, the desire of our hearts will be to bless Him. When we see and experience firsthand who God is, the desires of our heart will be to find ways to serve Him. The promise of Scripture is that if we ask anything according to His will, we can know that we have what we have requested of the Lord in prayer (1 Jn. 5:14-15).
Have you been delighting yourself in the Lord? He will give you the desires of your heart.
Heavenly Father, thank you for delighting in me. Help me to continually make the time to delight in you. Lord, give me a heart that desires to please you in all my ways. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
