Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

If you talk to any pilot, they will tell you that there are two instruments essential to flying: a compass and a horizon. When a pilot is in heavy cloud cover, there is nothing inside their body to tell them which way is up and which is down. To know where the plane is, the pilot needs a point of reference outside of themselves, so the compass shows the lateral direction and the instrument showing the horizon gives the vertical direction.

Jesus has declared, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (Jn. 14:6).’ To be wise in our own eyes, or to operate according to our subjective feelings, is to risk becoming disoriented in life and end up crashing and burning. We all need a reference outside ourselves to avoid detrimental ways to ourselves and others. Jesus Christ gives the Spirit and the Word to keep us on a path that leads to life and life more abundantly. Are you trusting Him more than your own ways?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I believe, help my unbelief. Thank you for the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, and your Word that is a lamp unto my feet and light for taking the right paths. Strengthen me to trust you and obey your way over my own. In Jesus name, amen.
