1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 – “…we proved to be gentle among you. As a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children, in the same way we had a fond affection for you and were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives…”
Have you ever encountered a harsh Christian? Their tone and their countenance regarding the sins of the world make them feel completely unsafe or undesirable to be around. After all, we are all keenly aware of where we fall short and need grace to continually grow.
There has never been a more impactful missionary to the world than the Apostle Paul, and we should learn from his approach to discipling the churches he planted. Perhaps there is no more helpful passage in the Bible than this one regarding what made Paul’s ministry so fruitful. Paul was tender, gentle, and careful in handling people. He came across as delighted to see those whom he regarded as family and wanted to share his life with them.
The old cliché is true, ‘people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.’ Have you proved gentle among people? Careful to show tenderness in a world that turns many hearts cold?
Heavenly Father, please help soften my heart towards people with your amazing love. May you be glorified in me as I reflect your gentle spirit and tender care in Jesus’ name, Amen.
